Can I call this first post my delurking? Even if nobody sees it?

In case somebody does, here's what you should know about me: I'm a woman, living in Europe, well above any age-limit. I love reading fic, both fan and original. I really, really love reading fics that are long, plotty and slashy, but will read (and very likely enjoy) anything if someone I trust recs it.

I enjoy following meta discussions. They always teach me something or give me a new insight and can be truly thought-provoking. There are so many smart and interesting people in fandom!

I also enjoy reading the occasional personal entry. Not only do they help me to get to know my favorite fic authors a little better, but they also allow me glimpses at different cultures and, by contrast, my own. That said, I don't read purely personal journals and I will never ask somebody who screens their personal entries to friend me, as long as the fics are unlocked.

If I friended you, the most likely reason is that I loved something you have written and don't want to miss "the next thing". If you friends-lock your fic, I would be very happy if you included me on your friendslist, but I won't be angry or hurt if you rather don't.

I'm a lurker, I'm ashamed to admit. I know I should comment more, tell authors that I love their work, express my gratitude -- it's just really hard for me to do. I can't even blame the fact that English isn't my first language. I mean, sure, that doesn't make things easier but I seem to have a "permanent writer's block" in my native language, too.

There are much too many "I"s in this text already, and I never know how to quit something like this somewhat elegantly. So.

The End.
